The STRIVE-New Haven office is home to the New Haven affiliate of CareerGear, a grassroots 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in New York City in 1998 to promote gainful employment and self-sufficiency of disadvantaged men actively seeking employment.
Sponsored by Men’s Warehouse and Brooks Brothers, CareerGear provides interview-appropriate clothing, while STRIVE provides the employability training and post placement support. CareerGear’s philosophy is simple but powerful: Successful employment is a catalyst towards men emerging as fathers and leaders within their communities.
Since 1999, CareerGear has helped 17,500 disconnected and under served job-seeking men from across the country become self-sufficient members of their communities. By providing interview counseling and business attire, CareerGear offers vital services to men of all ages and ethnic backgrounds, recipients of public assistance, the disabled, recovering addicts, Iraqi war veterans, former foster care children, recent immigrants and the formerly incarcerated. CareerGear invests in men who have begun to turn their lives around.
CareerGear isn’t just for STRIVE graduates, services are available to other clients from the New Haven area who have successfully graduated from similar job training programs.
